BudgetMate ("the app") is developed and published by Marvin Cerdas Angulo, based in Costa Rica. For any privacy question, contact legal-budgetmate@marvincerdas.dev.
BudgetMate is a personal finance app that works with no user account and no server of our own. Your transactions, accounts, budgets and receipt photos are stored only on your device. The only thing that leaves your phone automatically is the crash reporting described in section 4.1, and only if you leave it enabled.
This data is never transmitted to Marvin Cerdas Angulo or to any third party, unless you turn on Google Drive backup (section 4.2) or share a file yourself.
| Category | Examples | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Financial information | Transactions, amounts, accounts, credit cards, budgets, categories, recurring transactions | Local database (Room), in the app's private storage |
| Images | Receipt photos you attach to a transaction, taken with the camera or picked from the gallery | The app's files folder on external storage |
| Preferences | Language, theme, primary currency, backup frequency, app lock | SharedPreferences and the local settings table |
| Backup passphrase | The phrase you choose to encrypt your backups | Stored locally, wrapped with a key held in the device's Android Keystore |
Android's own automatic backup is disabled (allowBackup="false"), so the
operating system does not upload a copy of your database to Google's cloud without your involvement.
The app integrates Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) to detect and fix errors. When the app crashes or records an error, the following is sent to a Firebase project controlled by Marvin Cerdas Angulo:
What is not sent: no financial data, no account names, no amounts, no receipt images, no email address.
Only if you connect your Google account:
drive.file scope, which grants access only to files the app
itself creates. It cannot see, read or modify the rest of your Drive. To refresh exchange rates, the app queries the public Frankfurter API
(api.frankfurter.dev). The request contains only ISO currency codes (for example
USD, EUR, CRC). No personal or financial data is sent. As with any
internet request, the provider receives your IP address at the network level.
When you export to Excel or share a backup, the app hands the file to whichever app you pick in the system share sheet (email, messaging, storage). You initiate that transfer, and it is governed by the receiving app's privacy policy.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet | Exchange rates, Drive backup and crash reports |
| Camera | Photographing a receipt, only when you ask for it from the transaction form |
| Alarms & reminders | Running the automatic backup at the scheduled time |
| Run at startup | Re-scheduling the automatic backup after a reboot |
The app requests no photo or storage permission: picking an image goes through the system picker, which grants access only to the file you select.
Your data stays on your device for as long as the app is installed. You can delete it at any time:
Depending on where you live (GDPR in the EU, UK GDPR, LGPD in Brazil, CCPA/CPRA in California and equivalent laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete and port your data, to object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
Because virtually all of your data lives on your device and under your direct control, you exercise those rights inside the app itself: the Excel export covers portability, and the data deletion screen covers erasure. For anything concerning crash reports, write to legal-budgetmate@marvincerdas.dev; we will respond within 30 days.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months.
BudgetMate is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with data, write to legal-budgetmate@marvincerdas.dev.
Crash reports are processed on Google's infrastructure, which may be located outside your country, including in the United States. Google relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses for those transfers.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced inside the app before they take effect.
